I’m very honoured to have been appointed as the ambassador for the Hong Kong French Film Festival.

My affection for French cinema dates back to my childhood, when I was a fan of Alain Delon’s films. My experience of the French film industry also includes serving as a jury member for the Cannes Film Festival and directing my first foreign-language film starring the French rock star Johnny Hallyday.

The film industries in France and Hong Kong share much in common. Hong Kong films are popular in France, and French cinema has had an unquestionable impact on Hong Kong’s filmmakers. As we have seen at a number of film festivals this year, French cinema is renowned for its bold, unrestrained style. Presented by the Alliance Francaise de Hong Kong, the Hong Kong French Film Festival gives Hong Kong cinemagoers the opportunity to view hidden gems that are not screened commercially.

As the ambassador of the Hong Kong French Film Festival, I hope that I can help to promote exchanges between filmmakers and bring the very best of French film to Hong Kong’s residents.
