Retrospective: A tribute to the film composers
The 2019 Retrospective of the Hong Kong French Film Festival highlights the intertwinement of cinema and music by paying a tribute to the film composers. At this occasion, you will have the opportunity to meet the French film composer Serge Franklin, and exchange with him around his work in music and cinema.
About Serge Franklin
Serge Franklin is a French composer and musician. With a career spanning over five decades, he has scored an impressive number of features for cinema, theatre, and television. He started his music career in the 60s as singer and songwriter. Meanwhile, he became a sitar studio musician, an instrument he studied in India. He turned to cinema and theatre in the 70s collaborating with theatre company Renaud-Barrault and gaining public recognition with original music for director Alexandre Arcady. Since 1980, he has built a high reputation scoring more than 200 television movies and series.

Due to a short-term medical condition, Alexandre Desplat has unfortunately had to withdraw from “The Oscar Maestro: Alexandre Desplat” concerts on 4 & 5 January 2019. Hence, the concerts and the “Meeting With Alexandre Desplat” special event will be cancelled.

About Alexandre Desplat
Two times Academy Award winner and nine-time Academy Award nominee, with over a hundred score two his credits, Alexandre Desplat is, without doubt, one of the greatest when it comes to film music.
Inspired by the works of Maurice Jarre, Bernard Herrmann, Nino Rota or Georges Delerue, he expressed his desire to compose for Cinema early on but really made his decision after listening to John Williams’s score to Star Wars. A work he pursued with great success, leading him to work with the greatest names in cinema: Terence Malik (Tree of Life), Jacques Audiard (A Prophet, Rust and Bone), Wes Anderson ( The Grand Budapest Hotel )...
